They examine the cells microscopically for color, size, shape, structure, and patterns. Abnormal changes in the cells may indicate cancer, hormonal problems, or other pathologic processes. Pathologists use the information supplied by cytotechnologists to make a final diagnosis. Cytotechnologists work with a variety of laboratory techniques and instruments, including special stains and the light microscope. Their job responsibilities are increasing with the advancement of new tumor identification techniques. Work Environment |
