Biomedical equipment technicians inspect, maintain, repair, calibrate, and modify medical instruments and medical equipment. These devices are used in medical therapy, diagnosis, treatment, and research. Technicians may be involved in the procurement, operation, supervision, and control of equipment.


Work Environment
Most biomedical equipment technicians work in hospitals, medical centers, and large clinics. Others work for employers on teams with biomedical engineers, medical personnel and scientists. Technicians who work for manufacturers may work with engineering sales and service personnel. There are some physical hazards in this occupation, such as injuries caused by lifting or transporting heavy equipment and exposure to electric shock, radiation, fumes, and communicable diseases.
